Ladders

The ladders on the bunk beds should be slanting and not vertical as these are more comfortable when a kid is climbing up or coming down. Check the width of ladder steps, these shouldn't too narrow as it can cause problems climbing up or coming down. The width of ladder side rails should be within the reach of a kid so that a kid can hold them properly while climbing up or coming down.

Mattress

Other things to keep in mind

Don't let children play on the top of Bunk Bed as it not only wear and tear the mattress but there is always a risk of kid falling down from the top of Bed.
